Have you ever heard about a place called Fort of fire? If you haven’t, it means that you don’t speak Gaelic and probably don’t know that Dùn means fort and Dèagh means fire. But, what if I combine those and simply say: Dundee? Sounds more familiar, doesn’t it?

Placed on the banks of the river Tay, East of Scotland and near the coast of the North Sea, this little but historic city has existed since the Iron Age and was built around Dundee Law, the famous hill which crowns the city of Dundee.

With 148,260 people, Dundee is Scotland’s fourth largest city. It is also the RRS Discovery’s home. This famous ship was used by Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton in the first official British exploration of the Antarctic regions.

Dundee is also a good place to enjoy culture. Dundee Rep Theatre offers performances from Scottish Dance spectacles to comedies and Dundee Contemporary Arts centre is a home to a gallery, cinemas, a print studio, shop, activity room, a café bar & a restaurant where many festivals and events are held every year. But if you are a fan of nature you will be able to enjoy animals in Camperdown Wildlife Centre and a wide range of plants in Dundee Botanic Garden.

If you love shopping you will find several shopping centres here. If you are in need of a new attire you can visit Overgate’s clothes shops such as Primark, Next, H&M, Sport Direct; visit Argos and Apple Store if you are into techy stuff and Tiger if you want to decorate your room. If you can’t find what you are looking for there continue your shopping spree in Murraygate or go straight ahead to arrive in Wellgate, yet another shopping mall. If you are shopping on a budget don’t panic there are several charity shops in Murraygate and some outlets in City Quay on the waterfront such as TK Maxx or Matalan where you can find various affordable items.
